I've always wanted a Honda CBX. It's 6 cylinders, all in a row, have always intrigued me. And talk about cool.....nothing looks as good as that 2 foot wide engine strapped beneath the frame!. Nothing sounds as good, either!
My wife found this for me as a Fathers Day gift. A friend of my brother in-law (original owner) had it hidden under a couple of tarps for years. It is supposedly complete, but the engine was abused, resulting in a broken left exhaust cam, and a bent #3 exhaust valve.( So far ).
This bike isn't too very bad, and has a brand new DG 6 into 1 chrome exhaust. The engine was already removed and mostly disassembled when I received it. I came as shown above with the engine in pieces and about 4 boxes of assorted parts.
It was in an Automotive Garage for 2 years. A "mechanic buddy" of the bikes owner said he could fix it. He took the engine apart almost to the crankshaft. All the parts were in paper coffee cups! He labeled most, but he didn't say whether the valves were the right or left, only the cylinder number was written down. I had to take a guess.
After 2 years, the owner took it back (minus some parts that were misplaced) and stored it till I got it. How lucky can I be ?!
I was ridiculed for buying a "piece of junk". Sure, it was rusted, but it had potential.....
I started riding in 1976...ahh, 16 years old.....wish I was there again!!! By 79, I saw CBX's once in a while as I sped around (Ha! Ha!) on my 2 stroke Yamaha 200cc twin. (That's for sale also.) As the CBX's passed, I couldn't help but turn to my riding buddy, with a full grin, and smile with the thumbs up! What a cool bike! "Did you see that engine!"..............
SOME DAY...
